  • mail delivery problem

    Hullo.
Please help me, am running exchange 2000 and mail delivery is through a smart host. The exchange server is behind an ISA server and DNS seem to be well configured.

However, I have a problem, there is this particular message I sent in May to external recipients (outside our domain) which is still being delivered up to now.
When the recipient sends a read receipt, it bounces. Checking in the event viewer, can't find the problem.
Message tracking in turned on but I can't find that particular message.

Everyone is mad at me, Boss and clients. Please help, i really need to work this out, have searched for a soultion but failed to get one.
    Thank you.

Please could you confirm, you say that the message is still being delivered yet you are receiving read receipts which indicate the message has been delivered and read.

    which is it.?

      Re: mail delivery problem

This is what is happening, the recipient receives the message and i don't get a delivery notification in my outlook. When the recipient reads the message, the read reciept which am meant to get (sender) bounces, so its not delivered to my address.
      Could it be spam mail?

        Re: mail delivery problem

There is a good chance that this message isn't being duplicated at your site.
If you are getting copies of the message, then get hold of the headers and see where the duplication is taking place. If the message isn't being delivered to you, but to others, then you need to see if you can get hold of the SMTP headers from one of the recipients.

There is a bug in the original release of SBS 2003 POP3 Connector that causes this duplication of messages, and it will continue until the person with the buggy connector gets updated. The problem is finding the server responsible.

          Re: mail delivery problem

Thx Simon, its not me getting the message but will make sure that I contact the person and get the header.

However, my other question is, the mail goes through a smart host, could the duplication be taking place at this point? I contacted them (ISP) but denied responsibility.

          Thank you.

            Re: mail delivery problem

Until you can get the headers you cannot pin the blame on anyone. The headers will tell you what you need. You may want to get multiple headers if possible so that you can compare them.
