  • Change Domain Name

    Hi,

I installed 2003 Server with Exchange 2003 with a specific domain name. Now i want to change the domain name to a different one. (Netsystems.co.il instead of netsys.co.il).
what is the easy way to do that without causing problems?

    In a word, NO.
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

In a few more words: you're gonna have issues if you do.

Found this webcast. You might want to take a look at it to see if you want to go through with it... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838623

        Re: Change Domain Name

Is it just a question of handling all email addressed to Netsystems.co.il?

If so, add a recipient policy for that domain and make the organisation responsible for it.

Or have I missed the point completely?

          Re: Change Domain Name

What exactly do you meant change the domain name??

          1. As Tom has said are you just going to setup users with a new email address and keep your exisiting internal namespace the same??

          2. or are you going to chaneg the internal namespace as well??

If the answer is yes to number 1 then it is easy enough.

If the answer is yes to numebr 2 then you run into a whole heap of problems.

            Hi,

The thing is like you mentioned: I want to setup users with a new email address (netsystems.co.il) and keep my exisiting internal namespace. Do i need to add alias in SMTP?

              Re: Change Domain Name

              Hi User45:

              In Exchange System Manager:
              Open Recipients then Recipient Policies
              Double Click on Default Policy
              Click NEW
              Select SMTP Address, Click OK
Type in domain name (@netsystems.co.il) -- remember the @ sign
              Tick "This Exchange Organisation..." box
              Click OK
Tick the box beside the new domain
Click the "set as Primary" button
Check your users have auto update enabled

I assume you have already set up external DNS for the new domain
