  • Exchange 2003 / ActiveSync HTTP 500 Error

I am having an on going problem with Exchange 2003 and Activesync. When ever I try to do an Activesync with Exchange I get an HTTP 500 error. This is to a single Exchange server (so not front end back end setup). The server is setup as follows:

Windows 2003 (upgraded from Windows 2000)
Exchange 2003 (upgraded from Exchange 2000)
    Forms based authentication is on
    SSL is enabled
    OWA is working via https
    OMA is working via https

In IIS 6 the vdir are setup as follows

    Root directory:
    Enable anonymous access is checked
    Integrated Windows authentication is checked
    Basic authentication is checked
Domain is set to my netbios domain name

    Exadmin:
    Integrated Windows authentication is checked
Require secure channel (SSL) is checked
    Require 128-bit encryption is checked

    Exchange:
    Integrated Windows authentication is checked
    Basic authentication is checked
Domain is set to my netbios domain name
Require secure channel (SSL) is checked
    Require 128-bit encryption is checked

    exchange-oma:
    Integrated Windows authentication is checked
    Basic authentication is checked
\ is set to my netbios domain name

    ExchWeb:
    Enable anonymous access is checked
Require secure channel (SSL) is checked
    Require 128-bit encryption is checked

    Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync:
    Integrated Windows authentication is checked
    Basic authentication is checked
\ is set to my netbios domain name
Require secure channel (SSL) is checked
    Require 128-bit encryption is checked

    OMA:
    Basic authentication is checked
\ is set to my netbios domain name
Require secure channel (SSL) is checked
    Require 128-bit encryption is checked

    Public:
    Basic authentication is checked
\ is set to my netbios domain name
Require secure channel (SSL) is checked
    Require 128-bit encryption is checked

I have been going at this for four days now; searching the internet to no avail. Like I said OWA and OMA are both working; also I have installed the root certificate on my PPC (running WM 5). The root certificate is working on my PPC because I cab browse to my OMA web page via https without getting a certificate message. I have also come across and followed the instructions in KB817379 and KB215383.
