Re: Exchange 2003 migration to NEW server

Currently studying for the exam, Let see if I can do it

Build new server (Windows 2003 SP1 and all patches)
No need to run forestprep / domain prep as schema is already at exchange 2003
Install Exchange 2003 server into existing Exchange 2003 organisation.
Migrate user mailboxes via AD Users and Computere
Migrate public folders via Exchange System Administrator
Set-up / transfer any connectors (SMPT) to new server
Shutdown old server and leave offline for a few days to ensure new server is OK?

    Have i missed anything???

If I have it's because I am only up to chapter 6

      Three methoods:

      1. Backup.restore to the new server.

      2. a. Install new DC as GC/DNS/WINS.
      b. Dimount the orginal Exchange server.
      c. Rename the new DC to the old DC name (After delete its object from the AD).
(Use also the same IP as the old one, and move the FSMO to it).
      d. Instal IIS and use Exchange Disaster recovery mode to install Exchange
and then restore the EDB files etc. to the server.

      3. a. Install new DC as GC/DNS/WINS
      b. Move FSMO to this server.
      c. Install IIS and then Exchange on the new server
      by using Exchange deployment tools.
      d. Uninstall the old Exchange and the old DC.

      * Dont forget to backup settings and data first.

Ahhh - thought he was just migrating from exchange 2003 to exchange 2003 and his existing network was staying the same.
