  • Exchange Monitor Inbound Messages

I'm looking for a way to do a post mortem on bounced / blocked messages.

A provider is sending messages to our Exchange 2003 server but they never arrive. Is there a way to see what is hitting the server and what happens to the messages - either bouce, block, etc? I can't look at the message header for obvious reasons. Its like the message goes to limbo, no bounce, nothing to the users etc.

    Thanks.
    Andrew

Have you checked for messages in the badmail directory?

Yeah I have, forgot to mention that. I monitor the folder and I've seen nothing from the domain in question.

You can turn on the logging of the SMTP virtual server in the ESM and see whether the messages are actually hitting Exchange SMTP or are going into the void beforehand.

            Guy,

Doh! I wonder why I didn't think of that.

            Thanks,

            Andrew

            **Edit**
No emails from the domain in question are hitting the log, so I guess their server isn't resolving our SMTP server correctly or something else is wrong.
