  • Brick-Level backup and required permissions

    Hi all.

This is getting on my nerves...
I'm using Symantec Backup Exec 10d (and 9.x) and want to backup the individual mailboxes. The security permissions required for the backup user account are (according to my research):
    1. Member of the local "Administrators" group.
    2. Either "Full Control" (incl. Send As and Rec. As) on the server object,
OR "Full Control" (incl. Send As and Rec. As) on the mailbox store.
    3. NOT be a member of "Domain Admins"

This SHOULD do it! But it doesn't....

    Additional info:
The user above have a working mailbox on that server.
There is NO "deny" on any security permissions for that user on the store or on the server. (as there are for the "Domain Admins" for Send As and Rec. As)

I have been using Veritas Backup Exec for years but can't remember what I'm doing wrong.... I only configure this every 3 or 4 years When It works, it works.
Is it a bug or am I missing something here?

    Please HELP.

    Regards, Sebastian Strobeck (MCP EX2003)

Re: Brick-Level backup and required permissions

From memory we set up an account for bacup exec then let the installation take care of the required permissions.

I would imagine that you would also need to add at least Exchange View only privileges as well.

    Just found this.
