  • Address types, archiving, and EXMerge

so far things seem ok and im almost ready to turn on the external IP. being this is the first time i done this, i just wanna ask so newb questions...

all the address types... there are 7 of them. surely they dont need 7 different addresses to recieve and send mail, right? i only have two... the x400 and SMTP. do i need more? internal works fine now...

i have a fe/be setup, native mode on 2003. the front end is also running a web page... Archive Sink... im not getting it. i ran the script just like the white papers described, a have a shared drive that i pointed the script to but i dont see anything in the archive drive. do i need to run it on the front end as well? the front end has no mail stores...

    the display bindings says:
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin>cscript ArchiveSink_setup.vbs dis

    Finished.
and finally, exmerge. i figured out the rights thing, i can read other mailboxes, but how can i simply delete all the messages from the inboxes? ive been testing emails and testing my groups and distro lists and now i have test messages floating all over the place.. i just want to delete them all.

thanks again guys.... i know its a long one. any suggestions are welcomed.

Re: Address types, archiving, and EXMerge

I'll answer some of your questions:

You only need 2 email addresses: SMTP and X400. What others do you have there? And where exactly is "there"?

You can use Exmerge to pull stuff out of users' mailboxes by selecting ARCHIVE as an option (click on the OPTIONS button). That'll delete any email based on the settings you've configured (date range, folders etc.). I have an article on this on the main site. Look for it.

Re: Address types, archiving, and EXMerge

i found your write-up on the exmerge.

and i forgot the path location for the active sink:
      cscript archivesink_setup.vbs install 1 P:\Archive
      it works fine now.

thanks for all your help and the great site!
