  • Exchange 2003 Web Access on a different server?

    OK, situation is as follows:

Due to the hardware fairy blowing up my exchange server MoBo, I have now got Exchange running on a lowish spec PC which currently acts as a web server also. I would like to move the web server role to a different server and leave the current one running exchange only. Can I set up OWA to run on a "non exchange" server? to save a lot of messing around with the DSL router to run multiple web servers.

I have only one public IP.

    All answers gratefully appreciated

Nope, not on Exchange 2000/2003. You could, however, use a virtual directory on your existing webserver, something like

    http://mydom.com/mail

to forward the traffic for the existing OWA. I use the same trick. No problem with it, the only issue is that you'll need another IP for the OWA, or have it inside your LAN/DMZ with NAT mapping to it.

      Thanks, Daniel,

Do you have a "how to" guide to do this.

It sounds like the ideal solution -- there seems to be no other way without a second exchange server.

If I am not senile, you could have OWA on non-Exchange server with E5.5 or am I making this up ?

No, you're right, but only for 5.5 not on 2000/2003.

An now they have taken away the Instant Messaging in W2K3.
Grrr... Give them couple of years and we will be left with Exchange doing only IMAP and POP3 and a text version of Outlook (PINE rocks !).
Something like: Exchange 2010 SE (Simplified Edition) and Outlook TV (Text Version)
