  • NTBackup can not see Exchange Org

    Hello,

I have problem with ntbackup. All of sudden the ntbackup can not see the Exchange Organization, so I can not backup the database. I got these error on the Event log:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: ESE BACKUP
    Event Category: Callback
    Event ID: 904
    Date: 1/30/2006
    Time: 1:19:48 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer: EXCHSVR-1
    Description:
Information Store (284 Callback function call ended with error 0x80040950 .

    For more information, click http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.

The server is Win2K3 Svr Enterprise SP1, Exchange Svr 2003 Enterprise SP2.

Previously ntbackup was working properly after the SP2 upgrade.

I am experiencing the same problem also with one other Exchange server (same Admin group), but this server was Exchange SP1. I upgraded it to SP2 but it didn't help.

Would appreciate any advise on troubleshooting it.

    Thanks!

I've never come across this personnally and have done the sp2 upgrade a few times now.

You could try reinstalling NTBackup from add/remove windows components and see if that works. Other than that look into Veritas BackupExec with the Exchange agent. Well worth every penny

Hope you get it sorted mate.

P.S. If it's the price of Veritas that puts you off, you might find a cheaper online backup solution.

Delete the scheduled job and recreate it.

I am not sure if it is caused by Exch SP2, because on the first server ntbackup was fine for a few weeks after upgrading to Exch SP2. Also on the second server, it started when the server was on Exch SP1.

At the moment we don't have budget for Veritas...

          Hi,

I tried manual backup, same result. Ntbackup can not see the Exchange org. The error code I am getting on the Event Log is different than the one on MS KB article you have quoted. I have tried to look for the error code but no luck.
