    We have an Exchange 2003 Exchange organisation and use Outlook 2010. We have many complaints that the free/busy information is so slow. When opening someones calendar or resource calendar it can take more than a minute before it shows. Also booking a resource, hangs Outlook for like 30 seconds before it is succesfully done!
    Are there any tips or things to look at to increase this performance? Outlook /cleanfreebusy works for the clients, works a bit. But what can I do to generate overall performance improvements?
    If I look at the Public Folders at the schedule+ free busy folder, there are like 15 subfolders with old administrative groups as well. Folder names like EX:/o=companyname/ou=xxxxx wheren xxxxx is the administrative groups I think. I think, since I am new at this organisation and I am quite new in public folders and free/busy. These look like old inactive administrative groups, since some of them are still in use and others I cannot find. How can I determine whether they still point to an active administrative Exchange group?
    Or if I delete them, what could happen? Can I lose data here and can I easily restore this information or even beter, can I rebuild this free/busy information?

    Free/Busy information in Exchange is just based on the information in the mailboxes, which is published to the folder when a change is made. Therefore if you were to delete the folders then you wouldn't lose anything.
    However the information wouldn't be complete until users start to change something. We often see this when doing a PST migration, as it can take a week or more for the information to become accurate (unless you tell everyone to put something in their calendar, which forces a publication of their free/busy to the server).

    You could look to reset the system folders. That would give you a fresh start.

    The symptoms you are seeing are unusual, it isn't something I have seen before, so I would suspect it might be outside of Exchange - a plugin within Outlook would be my guess. Although Outlook 2010 against Exchange 2003 isn't a great combination, ideally a migrate to Exchange 2010 should be considered sooner rather than later.

      Thanks for your reply. So the SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY, actually hold no data? Only for one moment to sync info between users/resources?

      Since I have 15 of them and I only have like 5 administrative groups, I can delete all these folders that have old and so invalid adminstrative groups? I have tried to delete a folder, but it asks me for a network password. I tried my domain/enterprise admin account, but that dind't work. I got a access denied.
      I tried to check/alter the permissions with PFDAVAdmin and MDBVU32 but this did not work eitherr.

      I have seen the a numerous of times but it sounds risky. I will have another look. I can't find the tool mentioned in there though, also not the tool updatefb.exe or fbupdate.exe which is mentioned quite a lot.

      Yes, I am preparing this migration, but for now, since we have so many complaints about the bad performance, I was try to deal with this too. I thought it could be due so many subfolders in this SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY public folder.

        The free/busy folders do contain data, but nothing is unique - it is all a subset of the data that is in the mailbox already. Therefore if you were to lose the data it wouldn't cause you any problem.

        You cannot delete system folders in the usual way through ESM, I think the only way is through ADSIEDIT. Personally I would probably look at moving to Exchange 2010 where you can leave all of this behind.
