  • Help...publishing OWA to IP address & Firewall issues

Ok so I'm still having this one little (stupid) problem...

We are running Exchange (& SBS 2003) on the PDC that has an external static IP address. The machine is behind a NAT/Firewall device (hardware) and I believe port 3389 is forwarded because I can access Remote Desktop from home.

What I am trying to figure out is how to publish OWA so we can access it over the web as well. Right now when I type in http//public_IP_address/exchange or even /OWA it cannot get the page access. Are there additional ports that need to be forwarded to get OWA over the Internet?

    Port 80 for http
    Port 443 for https
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

Anyway to get around having to undo port 80 on the firewall?
      Isn't that a big security no-no?

Just for clarification...the way you have it worded "We are running Exchange (& SBS 2003) on the PDC that has an external static IP address." would sound like you have a external static ip address bound to SBS server (have two nics possibly using it as a firewall?) and a firewall appliance.

Or do you have just the one firewall (appliance) and doing port forwarding from it to your SBS?

Can you access the /exchange and the /oma sites from inside your network properly?

Yes we can access /owa & /exchange properly from INSIDE the org.

No SBS only has 1 NIC.

The static IP we have is bound to our external firewall (hardware) and then connected to the PDC (exchange). I was asking about what ports I need to forward to get OWA working from the outside.. Or better yet from step 1 how to set it up.

Some links about Port Forwarding. http://www.google.com/custom?domains...D%3A1%3B&hl=en

            SOme Owa links. http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&l...=www.petri.com

A shorter OWA link. Has some very good links at the bottom of the page. http://www.petri.com/configure_ssl_on_owa.htm

Is this the sort of information you were seeking?
