  • Disable Out of Office from forwarding to external email

    Hi,

We have a few staff members who are getting a bit clever, and setting up a rule in either in their Out of Office or in Outlook rules to forward to an external email which they manage on their smart phones.

This is obviously a security concern, and a breach of our usage policy.

Is there a way to stop emails from being automatically forwarded to external addresses? We are running Exchange 2003 and a mixture of Outlook 2010 and 2003. The main culprits are running Outlook 2003.

    Thanks.

Re: Disable Out of Office from forwarding to external email

    Hi all,

I found a fix for this, so I thought I'd post it in case anyone else wants to know how to do this:

    1. Open Exchange System Manager
    2. Expand Global Settings
    3. Click on Internet Message Formats
    4. Right click on your message formats, usually Default but it may be something else
    5. Go to Properties
    6. Click on the Advanced Tab
    7. Uncheck 'Allow automatic forward'
    8. Click on OK

This will disable auto forwarding to an external domain, however rules can still be setup to automatically forward to internal email addresses.
