  • Exchange 2003 and Win2003 SP1

    We are running Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP1 on Windows Server 2003 Standard, no SP. When Win2003 SP1 came out, I read somewhere that it causes problems with Exchange 2003, and so it has yet to be applied. All the Win2003 hotfixes up until SP1 have been applied.

    Is Win2003 SP1 safe with Exchange 2003? Any recommendations?

    Should Exchange 2003 SP2 be applied before or after applying Win2003 SP1?

    Re: Exchange 2003 and Win2003 SP1

    Windows 2003 SP1 is safe to install on exchange 2003 sp1.
    allthough that in some specific cases there have been several problems specified in KB articles, in 95% of the Win2003SP1 i made, i have not encountered any problems.

    never the less, it is always recommanded to perform a full backup before you upgrade the system, incase something does go wrong and you won't be able to fix it.

    about Exchange SP2, I haven't found anything in the documentation that states any problem of installing it before or after Win2003SP1, so you can install it regardless of whether you have it installed or not.

      Re: Exchange 2003 and Win2003 SP1

      Two weeks ago i have been upgrading my Exchange Server to SP2 (Front End and Back End).

      * Front End, Windows 2003 SP1 and Exchange 2003 SP1
      * Back End , WIndows 2003 (without SP1) and Exchange 2003 SP1.

      My Scenenario is:
      1. Upgrading Exchange Front End to SP 2, success without restart.
      2. Upgrading Windows Server 2003 to SP1, and restart
      3. Upgrading Exchange Back End to SP2, succes without restart.

      FYI, Back End Server is upgrade from Windows 2000 SP4 and Exchange 2000.

      So, if you plan to upgrading your Exchange to SP2. Don't worry. But backup is a must
