  • Current Exchange 2003 to New Server with Exchange 2003

    Hi,

We are currently using Exchange 2003 Server. Due to Space we are planning to move this server to New purchased server.

In above case I need help please suggest step-by-step guideline to achieve this task.... and approx time for this activity, on that we have to plan down time for same.

Re: Current Exchange 2003 to New Server with Exchnage 2003

    Seriously??

Your buying new kit and installting an applicatio that is circa 10 years old on it. Would now not be a good time to migrate to 2010??

    Anyhow to answer your question:

    Install Server 2003 R2.
Configure and install AV and all critical updates.
Install Exchange Server 2003 and configure for your existing system.
    Replicate Public Folders.
    Migrate Mailboxes.

All users should on first logon redirect to the new server if the old server is left on.

As for the time to complete this task. I would reckon on around 3 weeks to allow for public folder replication to occur.

Agree -- if you can afford the server, you should be able to afford the Exchange licenses

      As an alternative plan
      1) Buy new server
      2) Download and install Server 2008 R2 HyperV edition (free)
      3) Install Server 2003 R2 in a VM
      4) Continue as above

              This is my migration guide:
              http://exchange.sembee.info/2003/mig...-migration.asp

As long as you leave both servers running for a period, all clients will redirect to the new server automatically.

                  Why would you do that??

Run through the migration plan that Sembee posted and you wil be able to migrate your users from one server to another.

Re: Current Exchange 2003 to New Server with Exchnage 2003

As already said, why bother with backup/restore? It puts things at unnecessary risk because you are then dependant on the backup being good. To use the backup the original machine has to be trashed, which means if the backup isn't good you are stuffed.

The method I have posted is completely risk free, involves no downtime and is a tried and trusted method.

                          Hi,

With my Old server I am using a third Party Tool "Exchange Wall"

I want use this app on My new Server too; availability of this too will skip my or no need to do any steps from your shared link?

Old server Name is "mail-server" and new server is with "mail" In the Exchange system manager of the Mail-server under the routing groups>members it is showing Mail Server as a MASTER and mail as a MEMBER is this okay?

Never heard of that product and nor has Google. Therefore I cannot comment any further.

You will need to change the routing group master before you can remove the old server.
