  • Mailstore service issues

    Hello:
We are running SBS2003. Almost daily our email is down in the morning. We get exchange server unavailable when trying to connect. All exchange services are up and running. However, I discovered that if I stop the Exchange Mailstore service and restart it, email works again. Any suggestions.
    Thanks

    Re: Mailstore service issues

How big is your mailbox store?
This could well be the "18 GB" limit that initially applied to Exchange, but can be raised by a registry change.

See the article on the main site: http://www.petri.com/change_store_si...ex2003_sp2.htm

Can you explain that again slowly...
Do you mean you have already extended the store and are now at 22 Gb, or it has reached 76 GB (over absolute maximum limit of 75 Gb)

          Re: Mailstore service issues

          Hello:
In the past we installed SP1 and 2 and used the Microsoft instructions to increase the mailstore size from the default to 75BG. The current actual size is 22GB.

I discovered yesterday that if I look at services, all exchange services are running but, if I stop and restart the mailstore and pop3 services, we get mail again.
          Thanks

            Re: Mailstore service issues

Exchange doesn't stop on its own, there will be something logged in the event viewer.

Are you sure you got the registry setting correct? It is easy to get wrong. The maximum size is reported in the event viewer when the Information Store service is restarted.

The fact that it is happening every morning sounds like the limit isn't set correctly.

              Re: Mailstore service issues

are you SURE your mailstore is at 22GB ?
Look in the event log for ID 9688
also 1221 to see how much white space is there

next time - instead of just restarting MSExchangeIS, please go into Exchange System Manager and look at your mailbox datastore and see if it's mounted.
