  • Duplicate items from bad restore! help me delete dupes!

    all,

I was attempting to restore an individual users mailbox and mistakingly
selected the entire information store as well. When the process was taking
well over 30 minutes i go to look at what was going on and came to notice
i was restoring the complete information store. Now some of my users have
received duplicate emails, calendar appts, address book entries, etc... Is
there any way to reverse this backup or any scripts/filters that let you
delete duplicate data on the server? I have about 100 users so a manual
job would be dreadful. I am using veritas backupexec 9.1 on exchange 2003
    sp1.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Duplicate items from bad restore! help me delete dupes!

    Please check the following options:

    1. Backup all the mailboxes by using Exmerge.
    2. Delete all mailboxes, purge and create a new one.
    3. Restore the IS from clean backup.
    4. Import mailboxes with option to "not import duplicate enrties" by using Exmerge or outlook import.

If you had Legato/Netbackup/TSM in one click you could restore everything.

      Yuval,

Thanks for the reply. I ended up using Exmerge to extract the affected mailboxes, then purged them, recreated, and restored from tape. after that i went ahead imported from exmerge without duplicates to update the pst to the latest info. Thanks !
