  • Attachment limit for internal mail only

Hi, I am currently administering an Exchange 2003 environment and I have a slightly strange problem.

Due to business needs we have set the global mail size at 20MB, but I want to restrict internal mail sizes to around 5MB while still maintaining the external mail limit at 20MB. Basically I need my internal mail limit to be lower than my external one.

Does anyone know of a way I can achieve this?
    Thanks

    You can review:

    http://www.petri.com/setting_size_li...r_messages.htm

There lots of option to control message size: For exmple, set x size limit to the Internet connector and then another size limit to internal users etc.

      Thanks for the reply yuval14

I'd looked at serveral articles and didn't find a way to do what I need. At the moment our organisation uses Mail Marshall for all external mail, so we can limit message sizes for external mail. The problem is that if I try to limit mail size via Exchange, it will set the limit for all mail. I can configure the SMTP message limit, but if the global or user limit is lower, then they will override the other limits.

      Eg:
The global setting is set to 5 MB.
The Mail Marshall limit is set to 20 MB.
The SMTP virtual server is set to 20 MB.

Using the above settings, the global limit of 5MB would apply to any messages set (and would override the MM and SMTP settings). The more I think about it, the less I'm convinced it can be done.

No big deal. Thanks for the help.

        1. Please create a new connector to the internet on the Exchange server.
        2. Set policy to this connector to allow only X size mail forward.
