  • Two Exchanges/Different Domains within same network structure

Looking for a little advice/thoughts. Have been asked to investigate the pros/cons of setting up a seperate domain and exchange server within our existing network structure as a testlab domain.

So we'd have companydomainproduction.com on our 10.0.1.X subnet with Active Directory/DNS/DHCP/etc and the production Exchange server.

Then on our 10.0.60.X subnet we'd have pilotdomainnonproduction.com doman with it's own AD/DNS/DHCP/etc and the non-production Exchange server.

Am I right in saying this would work without any issues? We wouldn't be putting in trust relationships between the two domains so in theory they wouldn't be able to see each other or access each other, so there shouldn't be any collision or authentication errors...

Yes, you are talking about two different Exchange organization installed in two independent Active Directory domains (forests).

So, you can go with this without any issue. However, if your testing environment will be also connected to the Internet make sure that infected emails are not entering to you network.
