  • Publish Exchange 2003 with ISA 2006

    Dear Experts,

I have exchange 2003 SP2, and I have ISA 2006 running on another server with public IP on external interface and MX records now pointing to external IP of ISA, I need to know the way to publish exchange 2003 for sending / receiving emails through ISA.

I searched on internet but only found article from microsoft technet which is having too much details and getting me confused. I would like if any senior share his experience OR article from internet for the same.

    Awaiting your reply.

    Regards,
    Wajeeh

Try this tutorial from isaserver.org. You may want to consider getting a consultant in however, as ISA is a pretty easy product to break if you are not familiar with it.

Re: Publish Exchange 2003 with ISA 2006

All you need to do is publish the SMTP server to allow mail in, and create an access rule allowing SMTP out from your Exchange server. If you can't get how to do that out of this Technet article then IMO you do not have the expertise to be configuring ISA Server and should bring in a consultant.

That may sound harsh, but as I said, ISA is very easy to misconfigure if you are not experienced with it. Configuring access externally for OWA, ActiveSync etc is much more complex and is almost certain to be required at some point.

Hi, first you need to enable RPC over HTTP in your Exchange Server: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833401 and then configure ISA to publish it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884506

Partly, yes, if you want to enable this option.

However, the OP specifically states he only wants to send/receive emails. not have Outlook anywhere
