  • Install exchange 2003 on a member server

    Dear All

    I have the folloing setup

    domain Controller (2003 r2) with AD abc-ad.xxx.local
    ip 192.168.1.1/24
    DNS 192.168.1.1
    GW my router
    DNS running

    Member server (2003 r2) joined to xxx.local as mem-ex.xxx.local

I need to install exchange 2003 on the member server mem-ex.xxx.local
I can ping and resolve both servers from each other
Configured NNTP SMTP ASP.NET and WWW on mem-ex.xxx.local

my question is how do i install exchange 2003 on the member server? which server should i run setup.exe /forestprep and /domainprep, when running these commands on the member server the action does not change to either forestprep or domainprep. Can someone give me clear instruction of how to accomblish this installation

    Thanks

Re: Install exchange 2003 on a member server

As long as the server is a member of the domain, you can run prep on any server that you like. Doesn't have to be run on the domain controller.

However if you have already Exchange 2003 on the domain then you don't have to run prep again.

Let the CD autoplay, or run setup.exe from the root. There will be a menu which will guide you through the steps that are required.

don't run dcpromo on the member server - this will promote it to a DC, which you already said you don't want.

To help us out, could you let us know the full text of the error you're getting?

Do you already have exchange servers installed?

If you followed the menu that autoplay brings up it will show you what you need to do.

          http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...EXCHG.65).aspx

You have to run setup.exe from the command line with additional switches to prep. It isn't an option that you can run from the GUI.

Until you run prep, the setup wizard will not let you continue.

Have you actually searched for instructions on how to install Exchange 2003? This is very basic stuff that is covered by numerous articles and the autoplay menu on the CDROM.
