  • Not able to receive emails from an online PHP mail

    Hi Guys,

I am not a PHP programmer however I am a network administrator.
The problem we are having is very odd ... we have a PHP mail function that sends emails out via a web form.
Any domain can receive those emails except one which I am hosting .. for some reason

I am using the default PHP.ini mail function with no modifications.

Is there anything I need to do on my exchange to enable this connection?
    I have Exchange 2003 inhouse.

Any help is grately appreciated !

    Thanks

If the application does its own lookups against the MX records and sends direct, and is using your internal DNS servers for DNS lookups, then it is probably getting no results for MX records or the results it does get it cannot connect because that is an external IP address answer, rather than an internal.

If you have a zone in your internal DNS for the public domain name then you will need to add an MX record pointing to the Exchange server. This can be the server's real host name, it doesn't have to match your external DNS entry for the MX record.

If you do NOT have a zone in your internal DNS for the public domain name, then you can try creating a host file record on the server that his hosting the script so that the DNS entry that is returned for the MX record host is resolves to the internal IP address.

So if your domain is example.com, the MX record host is mail.example.com and the Exchange server's internal IP address is 192.168.1.2 then the hosts file would have
    mail.example.com 192.168.1.2

Nothing to do with Exchange at all, it would be the same for any mail server where the server and the application are running on the same network.
