  • Bridgehead Server and Front End Server difference?

How does a Bridgehead server differ from FE server in terms of providing Internet messaging services? What i thought was a bridgehead server is just a connecting point (RGC) for multiple routing groups from siteA to siteB (WAN) which will be communicating internally on the organization. While FE servers are just providing a single point of access for outside clients(kinda proxy) and routes the request on the BE servers internally.

Anyway please see this topologies which im kinda off confused.

    Front-End Back-End Topology

    Bridgehead Server Topology

My question is how would i configure my exchange infra to be like that (bridgehead topology). It seems it's kinda similar with FE server topology. Now i'm confused with seeing those 2 topologies.

I beleive you are correct, i nthat a bridgehead is a centralised point for the routing groups at different sites

a front end server is a little different in that it serves as a connection point for clients, rather than servers.

You can have a bridgehead and FE server as the same server though

I think i'm correct, and I hope this has helped you a little

Re: Bridgehead Server and Front End Server difference?

Bridgehead and Frontend server are completely unrelated. They have nothing to do with each other other than the fact that a frontend server can be a bridgehead. However any Exchange server in the org can be a bridgehead.

Bridgehead is SMTP traffic only. Frontend server is everything - http, SMTP etc.
