  • Receiving duplicate email every 80 min

    One user is receiving the same email multiple times, exactly 80 minutes apart. Not running any A/V or Spam Filter on the Server.

    Exchange Tracking shows:
    11/08/10 SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queueing
    3:10AM SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queueing
    SMTP: Message submitted to categorizer
    SMTP: Message categorized and queued for routing
    SMTP: Message queued for local delivery
    SMTP: Message delivered locally to [email protected]
    SMTP: Message delivered locally to Store to [email protected]
    11/08/10 SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queueing
    4:30AM SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queueing
    SMTP: Message submitted to categorizer
    SMTP: Message categorized and queued for routing
    SMTP: Message queued for local delivery
    SMTP: Message delivered locally to [email protected]
    SMTP: Message delivered locally to Store to [email protected]
    .. still continuing now

    I've performed a reboot on the server and cleared the temp tables via MFCMAPI to no avail. Any ideas?!?

    Are you sure it is not coming from outside? You need to look at the headers of the message to see if the problem is external. Message Tracking will not show if that is the case or not.

      Thanks for the reply, Simon. Yes, the messages are coming form the outside and now it's happening with more than one external domain.

      I'm guessing our mail server isn't properly signaling that the message has been received, causing the other mail server to keep sending.

        The usual cause for that is interference. AV, Antispam, firewall, something like that. Something scanning SMTP traffic which shouldn't be.

          Hi,

          for duplicate messages, compare the message id for each message and find if it's really duplicate or new message but same content received repeatedly

          if message id is same the use MFCMapi to clean the temptables of SMTP. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906557
