  • Migrate Exchange 2003 to new server

I'm migrating old box (with AD, Exch 2003, DNS, DHCP) to a new box. Already made the new box a member DC. New box is GC and already transfer FSMO. Already installed Exch2003 on new box and can see at Exchange Sys Manager 2 server name.
I follow kb/822931 but at step "Move mailbox to another server", I only try to transfer 1 mailbox (client1) only to see the result.
I successfully transfer client1 mailbox from old box to new box, but when client 1 open OE, it will prompt the login/password for the incoming mail server.

Should I change the pop and smtp server setting at client OE to point to the new server?

    Outlook Express?
Why are you using Outlook Express? If you are using Exchange 2003 then you have the full licences for Outlook and should be using that. If you are going to use Outlook Express, drop Exchange and use something cheaper.

OE is for me to do testing only on my pc.
The rest of the user is using Outlook.

After move the mailbox to new box, seem that the user can't retrieve email again. Is there any step that I left out?

You wont be able to do much with Outlook Express other than test POP3/IMAP connectivity. This is under the assumption you have the POP3 and IMAP services turned on as they are turned off by default.
How are users connecting to Exchange? If via Outlook they will not need to enter any credentials and should be authenticated using their domain credentials. This is under the proviso they are in the same domain as the Exchange organisation.
If via Outlook Express you will need to configure your POP3/IMAP authentication settings from ESM under the protocols tab. As long as the users have credentials in the target domain they will be able to authenticate by entering their credentials.

Re: Migrate Exchange 2003 to new server

In the ESM there is like 30 mailbox. Some user is using Outlook and some is using OE. I want to transfer all the mailbox to the new server but so far the test i done is move 1 mailbox and the existing user is using OE. But after move the mailbox, when client open OE, it prompt for logon to the server.
So I change the pop and smtp setting at OE to point to new server but error came out "the connection to server has failed, protocol POP3, port110, error no. 0x800CCC0E.

This is only for 1 user. How about if i transfer all 30 mailbox. I afraid the problem is the same to all of the user??

            Stop. Using. OE. To. Test.

OE does not give you the full features of exchange, so you're not REALLY testing with it any way.

Is the server listening on port 110? Can you telnet to port 110? As iv already said is the POP3 service running? Have you enabled POP3 on their mailbox's?
