  • NDR 5.1.3 when sending mail from another Exchange server in domain

Hi, anyone familiar with this error? I have 2 exchange servers in 1 domain. One is Exch 2000, the other Exch 2003. According to Event Viewer, the attribute targetAddress might not have a value. But i believe targetAddress is needed only for external email. This is between 2 Exchange servers in 1 organization. Thanks.

Please run DSDIAG + DCDIAG and check that the DCS work as it should.
Also, do you use Win 2003 DC's ? How you implement the add of the Exchange 2003 to the domain? Is there replication of System Public folder from each server to the antoher? Did you tried to move all the DC's to become GC's? Did you tried to rebuild the address list (RUS service -> Rebuild)?

Re: NDR 5.1.3 when sending mail from another Exchange server in domain

Hi, thanks for replying. the DCs are working fine according to DCDIAG. All tests passed. This is how I added the new Exchange Server:

      1. I did adprep/forestprep and adprep/domainprep on the existing Windows 2000 AD.
      2. I created a new DC called DC2 on a Win 2003 server using DCPROMO. Now I have 2 DCs. One on Win2k and one on Windows 2003.
      3. I moved all FSMO roles to the DC2 and made it a GC. Now I have 2 GCs.
      4. I installed Exchange 2003 called MAIL2 on a new Win 2003 server.
      5. I moved several mailboxes to the MAIL2 using ADUC.
      6. In System Manager - Recipient Update Service, I added another service with MAIL2 as server and DC2 as DC. So i now have 2 RUS. The other with MAIL01 as server and DC1 as DC.
      7. In System Public Folders, I have set replication in folders for both mail servers.

I can successfully send email from MAIL1 to MAIL2 but not from MAIL2 to MAIL1. I get that 5.1.3 error. Yes I have tried to rebuild the RUS. Thanks.

        Please review:

        http://www.petri.com/windows_2003_ad...ix_for_e2k.htm

Also, why you create another "Recipient Update Service" ? I guess if you remove one, and move the currect "Recipient Update Service", reboot the DC's and the mail system it may "fix" this problem.
Please backup the system before you made these changes.
