  • Database size issue

Hi - We have a long standing database size issue with our Exchange 2003 implementation (Standard ver). Our exchange system is set up to have a maximum Db size of 70GB but this value is often exceeded which causes the information store to shut down. If we add up the mailbox sizes it comes to about 40GB but I can't account for the missing space. The online maintenance runs through ok and we have tried running an offline defrag but we get back no where near the amount of space expected. Any idea's? Thanks.

Hi - many thanks. Although I have already covered 99% of what was on the post, I had never found any info to suggest that the mailbox sizes (as reported in the Exchange System manager) did not include SMTP mail stored in the stm file. This makes much more sense now . Thanks again for the link.

The KB article I have quoted in that posting is the only place that I have seen it stated as well. It was something I came across quite by accident and shows that there is some valuable information buried in the KB.
