  • Outlook trying to retrive data from exchange in another site

    Hello,

I demoted DC in 1 site last Sunday using dcpromo. [ Was not the last DC to be removed from domain ]

Now I am facing mail related problem.

When some1 tries to send an e-mail, Outlook pop-ups at taskbar saying "Trying to retrive data from abc_exchange.child.domain.com. This abc_exchange is in another site and a child domain.

E-mail goes out from my local exchange only but it routes in between and Outlook freezes.

I don't no why local outlook clients are not trying to retrive data from my local exchange server.

I rebooted all DC's in my site as well as in child site too.
    Did manual replication.
    But still same problem.

    What can be the issue?

    Regards,
    Amey.

Are your clients in same domain as Exchange?
Do you have a GC server in both domains?

      - Clients are in another domain. [ That migration we did 1 month back. ] I have DC's of another domain in my campus already.
But in my child site, all clients are still on old domain.
-I have GC servers in main domain [ I haven't checked if GC is there on child domain or not ..Will give a check now ...] ALl DC's in my parent domain are GC's [ including the 1 which I demoted on Sunday ]
      -I had 3 DC's + 1 exchange in parent domain. Out of 3 dc's I removed 1 old DC.
-Rest 2 DC's already holding Schema master and other roles +DNS.

I am now running Perfmon tool on my parent exchange to take logs.

Update : I just got referrance of this link >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824118

I checked and confirmed there is no GC in my child domain. I have click and made DC in child domain as GC also. in child domain I have 1 DC + 1 exchange which communicates with my parent exchange through VPN tunnel and then my parent exchange delivers the e-mail to out side world.

I hope making a DC a GC in child domain can resolve my problem.
Will update you for the same.

Update Got 1 mroe reference link >> http://smtp25.blogspot.com/2009/09/o...data-from.html
My problem is exact same. It shows FQDN of my child exchange server.

      Thanks,
      Amey.

Re: Outlook trying to retrive data from exchange in another site

        Hello,

I found entry of my mail server in DNS of another domain which is hosted in my campus.
        Can that be the issue?
When I performed nslooup, my DNS server resolved it as "my_mail_server.other_domain.com". It resolved as this name because I have entry of other domain zone in my primary DNS server in Forward lookup zone.

As of now for testing I have specified IP address of exchange in outlook client.

        Any comments?

My problem got resolved after digging a lot.

I had to edit "Default domain controller" policy. I ensured that Exchange will search for available DC in my local site. After editing that problem vanished in no time.
