  • 2003 Decommision

I have a 2003/2007 Environment. All accounts have been move from the 2003 server.

Recently our 2003 sever was left off. This 2003 server was the 1st server in the organization.

New clients were not able to resolve outlook profiles even though they were on the 2007 server and we pointed to the Exchange 2007 server in their profile setup.

    Also

Public folders stopped working even though the clients are pointed to the 2007 server and all of the 2003 public folders had been moved.

We are about to decommision but we need to know why these failed before we complete the process.

    Re: 2003 Decommission

Did you follow the Microsoft procedure for removal of the last legacy Exchange server?
If you simply turned off the server without removing Exchange, then it sounds like you didn't.
You can't really shutdown an Exchange server to see if it causes a problem because the rest of the Exchange org expects it to be there.

In addition to Sembee's comments, Outlook profiles currently pointing at the old mailbox location will re-map automatically when the mailbox is moved to the new server providing the old server is still powered on.

      Can you review this.
