  • Cannot Receive External Mail

    Hello,

    Having an exchange issue on my companies network that I hope to get fixed asap. I am running the following.

    Exchange 2003 SP 2

    We can send and receive internal emails (on the LAN) just fine. We can send external emails just fine (outside the LAN) but we cannot receive incoming emails from external sources.

    All emails sent from external sources are bounced back. Here is an example of the bounce back report from my gmail account.

    Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 530 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first (state 13).

    You have enabled require TLS on the SMTP Virtual Server. Turn it off and then restart the SMTP Server service.

      Thanks Simon for your quick response. I checked and do not have TLS enabled on my virtual SMTP server. Please see below what I did (to make sure I checked correctly). I also placed my virtual servers settings, if you wouldnt mind taking a look. Thanks!


      Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties

      I checked in the following location
      Under Exchange->Administrative Groups->first administartive group->servers->myserver->protocols->SMTP->default SMTP Virtual Server

      General Tab
      IP address (ALL Unassigned)

      Access Tab
      Authentication
      Anonymous Access (Checked)
      Resolve Anonymouse E-mail (NOT Checked)
      Basic Authentication (password is sent in clear text) (Checked)
      Requires TLS Encrytion (NOT Checked)
      Default Domain (empty)
      Integrated WIndows Authentication (Checked)

      Communication Tab
      Require Secure Channel (Checked)
      require 128 bit encrytion (NOT Checked)

        Perhaps there is another TLS setting somewhere else?

          You have TLS enabled, as I stated originally.

          "Require Secure Channel (Checked)"

          That is TLS.

          Turn it off, restart SMTP Server Service.
