  • Exchange Global Address List

Hey Guys. I'm having some weird problem with my exchange 2003. I have 2 problems:

    1) I have a distribution list call tous (for all, it's french xD), which doesn't exist. The only way I found to get rid of it, is to click on the arrow of send/receive, and download address book... But I can't do this for everyone, I have 90 computers to check xD.

I did check the Recipient update Services, it's set to Always run, the Offline Address Lists is set to custom and each minute..

2)I am creating a new DIstribution list (email) and I'm adding everybody in the list. It will never show into the GAL, when I click on To (but new user will be there very fast). I've set like all the other, same same configuration, but still buggy..

If anyone can help out with this buggy thing, I would appreciate

    Thanks

      Re: Exchange Global Address List

You have the OAB generation set to every minute?
That will not only mean the process will never finish, but it will simply thrash the server. It isn't required to run it more than two or three times a day.
The OAB is updated automatically by the client, but if the update process doesn't complete, then it will not work.

Correct your OAB generation configuration, and the change should be live within 48 hours.

I,ve set the offline address book to run daily. Is that okay?

what about the Recipient update service? It is set to always run, I should put it at 1 time a day?

          Re: Exchange Global Address List

RUS running constantly is the usual behaviour, so shouldn't be changed. If you set it to run just once a day, then any new accounts will not get email addresses etc until that time.

Do you see the group in OWA? That is using live information and is the GAL.

If you do, then on a workstation, delete the *.oab files when Outlook is closed and then start Outlook. It will download a complete OAB rather than just the update files.

It did work... I have my group now in the GAL.

Why this? the update of the GAL doesn'T finish so it restart again? I need to set it to 2 day maybe?

                  Re: Exchange Global Address List

How many users in your GAL?
The GAL generation process is pretty quick so unless you have 1000s of users in there, extending the time would not be required.

                      Re: Exchange Global Address List

hey guys. I'm reopening this thread since I got again a issue.

I did add a DG (distribution group), but it doesn't shows up in the GAL on client (2003/2007). in OWA, i can see it..

two days since I created the group, and I can't see it. the Recipient update service (my Company) is set to always run, and the other one (entreprise) is set to always run.

the offline address list is set to run Daily at 5am.

                      Any help is appreciated.

                      Thanks!
