  • Stm file of Public Folder

    I've a strange situation

    Exchange 2003 std Sp2

    pub1.edb : 12.626 Mb
    pub1.stm : 23.808 Mb

    Why pub1.stm is so large?

Re: Stm file of Public Folder

Just comes down to the content of the PFs -- the edb contains the headers and text, while the stm contains the MIME data

AFAIK there is no correlation between the sizes of the two files

You never mentioned that in your first post!

Deleted items? -- Exchange doesnt free up empty space gracefully

IMHO, unless you have a space problem, do NOT worry about it

Re: Stm file of Public Folder

At the beginning the 2 values were similar. After your answer I deleted the old email in PF and then I've defragmented with eseutil the pub1.edb (eseutil /d pub1.edb).
I was sure that, at the end of defragmentation, pub1.stm would reduce its size

The stm file is accesed by non mapi clients and most of the times represents the content of the edb file for this clients.

This means you can delete this file and create a new empty one, use:

            eseutil /p pub1.edb /createstm.

Make sure you have a valid backup if you miss content after this step.
