  • Exchange 2003 Unregonized Mailbox and Resource

    All:

I'm dealing with serious lag from within outlook 2003 sessions in my organization. I have a single Exchange 2003 SP2 server with a BES 4.6 server hosting 60 users. I get the infamous "Outlook is requesting data..." The lag happens, as you can imagine, happens during the busiest times on the network(10am-11am & 3:45pm-4:30pm)

I've ran performance monitor and I see there may be latency between the iSCSI backend and the exchange server. RPC Latency sometimes hits 240 while Avg Disk read/sec and Avg Disk write/Sec spiked simultaneously. This is something I'm working on but in the interim i see a Mailbox that i don't recognize that is consuming a lot of resources.

    NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM

Attached you'll see an image from ExInsight that shows that mailbox utilization the most CPU. Is there anything i can do to diminish its affect on Exchange? Could anyone explain the System accounts role here?

Is there anything i can do to minimize the lag during busy times on the network as far as lowering RPC latency or RPC operations?

    Thanks,

    BESADMIN is the Blackberry account.
For each Blackberry enabled user it is the equivilent to an additional 3-4 live users in load. Therefore 60 Blackberry users is the same as having 200 users accessing the store.

Have you run the performance troubleshooter against the system?

      Thanks Simon.

I actually want to know what the purpose of the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM mailbox is ? And why it consumes as much resources.

      I haven't yet.

      Thanks,

      Harry.

There are lots of System Processes going on in the background. Nothing you can do about it.
By design, Exchange will use much resources as iit needs - that includes processor and RAM. You bought those elements to be used.

Most of the time the performance probelms are down to one thing only - storage.
