  • Public folders (and calendars) disappeared

I am experiencing a very odd problem (for the second time now) whereby my list of public folders in Outlook 2003 almost completely disappears (only one or two of many more appear). I'm also only able to open a selection of shared calendars (seems to be from particular stores). This all seems to happen out of the blue - all folders and calendars were previously visible. I don't think it's a permissions issue as I can see the public folders and shared calendars via OWA under the same account. I have a feeling it may have something to do with my Windows profile as the last time this happened recreating the entire profile was the only fix. I've tried disabling cached mode and recreating the Outlook profile but to no avail. This really has me stumped!

The primary method to test this is to see whether the problem follows to another computer. If it does not then it is unique to that machine. If it does then it is an account issue.

It does follow me to other computers and I'm convinced it IS a profile problem. However, I wondered what else I could do short of deleting my entire Windows profile as this is irritating to say the least. As I said, I've tried deleting the Outlook profile, clearing out the Outlook paths in Application Data and Local Settings to no avail. Are there any other locations within a profile that Outlook might store settings?

Is this happening on just your account or is it also a problem with other user accounts. Have you tried creating a new user/mailbox with the same permissions as you and then tried logging on with that one to see if the problem remains?

        Hmmm!

I am the only user that has experienced this problem to my knowledge. My initials thoughts are that it is not a permissions issue as I can see all of the folders using OWA. I suspect it is something else in my profile. I resorted to deleting my profile in the end as I really need to access the public folders and calendars. Very odd one this!

If the problem follows to another computer then it cannot be a profile issue, unless you are using roaming profiles.
If you are using roaming profiles then you should expect to see problems. That is the only way that profile issues can cross between machines.
