  • Messages getting delayed

    Hi all,

    Enviornment : exchange server 2003 enterprise edition R2 on windows server 2003 sp2 R2

some of my clients have complained that they have been receiving the following warning messages when they are sending e-mails to my domain. sometimes even the users within my orgainisation also get a similar warning message when they send the message to people outside the organization.

This is a warning message only.
Your message remains in the server queue,
the server will try to send it again.
You should not try to resend your message now.

Message delivery to '[email protected]' delayed
    SMTP module(domain [111.111.111.111) reports:
    connection with 111.111.111.111 broken

Here 111.111.111.111 is the public ip address.

FYI: the messages are getting delivered but after a delay

I searched Google but could not find a solution to it. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Messages getting delayed

The bulk of the reasons for the delay are completely out of your control. If the messages are delivered eventually, then in most cases it is not something to worry about.
If you look in ESM it might give you an indication why the message is not delivering immediately, but a delay message on its won doesn't tell you anything about the underlying cause.

I do agree on this but the messages are getting delivered after a day or two. This is what causing a problem for me. This delayed is caused only when sending to 3 external domains. For other domains everything is fine.

Please guide me on how to approach on this issue.

Check the headers to see where the delay is occurring

Unless you are the recipient, the header isn't going to tell you much.

If it is only happening with a small number of domains then the problem almost certainly is not yours. There is no magic fix - the Internet simply does not work in that way.
It could be a routing issue, dns resolution something like - most of which is out of your control.

            Re: Messages getting delayed

In this case the delay is caused even while sending and receiving. for some of my users(marketing dept.) when they are sending a email they receive a delay note and for another group of users in logistics, their clients say that they receive a delay when they are sending emails to my domain. eventually i am on both ends (sending and receiving).
