  • Mailbox size > sum of folder sizes

In the properties of the "Mailbox- Doe, Jane" folder, Jane's mailbox is listed as being over 198,000K total, but in the same window, she has ~500K if you add the sum of each individual folder.

I've tried moving the mailbox to abother storage group and I've recovered and deleted all email from her dumpster but nothing reduces her mailbox size. I do not want to delete and recreate her mailbox if I don't have to.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Hi there, I actually had the same problem with one of our users. Is it a laptop or desktop?

    Steve.

Re: Mailbox size > sum of folder sizes

The machine is a laptop and there is no real screenshot to show.

Since the initial problem, I deleted the user's ost and recreated the profile. The mailbox properties now show 20 meg which is in line with the actual amount in the mailbox.

Simply put, the Exchange server says that the mailbox is over 200meg in size when the actual mailbox is only 20meg.

What you can do is. Use exmerge tool and extract the pst and then check if it's really 20 mb or 200mb . If it's 20 mb and exchange is still showing 200mb

Do u know exchange db doesn't shrink when some data is deleted only when an offline defrag is performed. Not sure if that is the case.
