We are going to upgrade our exchange server 2003 to exchange server 2007 What is the best way of doing this. we thought of building a vitraul network for exchange 2007 front end server is it possiable to use our exchange server back end database? then point exchange 2007 to the datastore?

Re: Updating exchange 2003 to 2007

Have you actually read any of the Exchange 2007 documentation?
If you had you will notice that there is no such thing as an Exchange 2007 frontend server.
Furthermore the databases are not compatible. You have to move the data across.

Therefore your plan doesn't make any sense.

The only way to migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 is to build a replacement machine, either Windows 2003 x64 or Windows 2008 x64. Windows 2008 R2 is currently not supported.

Then install Exchange 2007 and move the data across. All documented on Technet.
