  • Alternative to NtBackup

    Hi All,

I have been using NtBackup to do a full backup of my exchange databases. Recently I came across to know that Veritas Backup exe has been awarded the number one backup and recovery solution.

If it is better than NTBackup then what version of Veritas backup should I use. I am using exchange server 2003 with windows server 2003.

    Re: Alternative to NtBackup

    If NTBACKUP works, why change?
Backup Exec is very expensive - the Exchange agent is more than the product itself.

Backup Exec hasn't been made by Veritas for some time - Veritas was bought out by Symantec at least three years ago, probably longer. You will not see NTBACKUP win awards because it is built in. Alas many of the "awards" go to the market leader, which Backup Exec undoubtedly is, however whether it does a better job, that is hard to say.

Of course NTBACKUP is built on the same technology as Backup Exec - Seagate Software (as Veritas used to be known) supplied the underlying code to Microsoft.
