  • Exchange 2003 Backup/restore recommendation

I have an Exchange 2003 server running on a single domain. I am required to do backup/restore tests every month and I am trying to come up with the best way to do it.

I have a server I can re-purpose and I was thinking to install exchange on it, and do a backup/restore test instead of having to mess with the production server.

Is this the best way to do this or am I complicating things to much?

How is having a second exchange server on the same domain will affect my production one as well as DNS/DC servers?

Thanks in advanced for your help.

PS. I am using Arcserve 11.5 for the backup software.

setup a virtual server once a month..
then to do your restoration, block out a window, shutdown the primary server, and do the full restore onto the second server
once you're happy, shutdown your virtual, bring back up the original
