  • Deny forwarding of email above a specified size

Is there anyway i can have an Exchange Server deny/stop the forwarding of email to an external account if the message is at or above a specified size?

To explain further, take for example I have forwarding configured on a mailbox for john doe to forward email received to both my mailbox and to an external account. Can there be a policy to allow delivery to the local mailbox on the Exchange but stop forwarding to the external account if the message is 1MB and above?

If you are forwarding by a contact, then on the properties of the contact is a Receiving message size setting. I am pretty sure that will restrict it.

However I think the original sender will get a size NDR, which may not be acceptable.

You are correct about the NDRs, preferred method would be to avoid them.

So I am guessing there is no other way.

Is your restricting of the message size for the external contact a secret? Why isn't an NDR acceptable? Why would you not want the sender to know that you're restricting the message size limit for the contact?
