  • MX Record Changes During Migration

    Hi guys,

I installed Exchange 2007 in my environement sucessfuly. Then I run into an issue. Let me explain. When I move one mailbox to the new Exchange 2007. Everything goes fine, the user can sent emails to outside world, but cannot receive any.

I spoke to my ISP which has the possibility to create 2nd MX with less priority on my external DNS which would pointed to my Exchange 2007. But he told me that he cannot do that since the MX is pointing to his own e-mail servers. My Exchange then takes a "copy" of that emails and get them (I suppose).

The only thing he can do is create a child domain like : test.mydomain.com

But How this can help me?

    Thanks

Re: Is possible to use Exch. 2003 and 2007 within the same domain?

Get someone better to host your domain name then, and please don't hijack threads...

Keep in mind that mail will usually only go to the second mail server if the connection to the first server times out. I would have thought you'd want everything going to Exchange, or to the ISP if Exchange is unable to accept the connection for some reason.

To this I would respond that, can't do that. And I don't understand the second part.

      >Get someone better to host your domain name then, and please don't hijack threads...

I just want to have no downtime for my endusers, by moving my mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 and uninstall Exchange 2003 Server from that physical machine. That server will be used for something else.

Any link for seamless migration? When I dont't have the hand on the external DNS? There is not any other way? If that is the case I'll have to migrate one Sunday probably.... anyway... -

      Thanks
