  • Move /Exchange virtual directory to another server

We run Exchange 2003 server for email and I am having problems with security certificates. Right now we access owa through url: mail.domain.com/exchange, but we have a self signed certificate so we get trust errors.

We did purchase an SSL certificate for our website registered for www.domain.com. Our website runs on a totally different machine than exchange. My idea to cure the security errors was to somehow get www.domain.com/mail to access exchange owa, but I have just been going in circles without making any progress.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

What you should have done was bought the certificate for say mail.example.com, then point that at the Exchange server.
While you could create a virtual directory on the web server, it will not resolve the problems because all you can do is forward the traffic. You cannot access OWA through another server - unless
    a. you have an additional Exchange licence.
    b. you install it as a frontend server
    c. it is a member of your domain (bad idea for a public web site).

See if the certificate provider will cancel the certificate and allow you to issue it to another host name.

Yes, see if you can cancel your other certificate and get a wildcard certificate. That way you can do anything.domain.com.. basically *.domain.com. I use this type of certificate for all sorts of things. It is about 4 times the price but you can use it on unlimited same level single domain names.
What I mean by that it is will work for *.domain.com but not *.anything.domain.com

Wildcard certificates can cause problems with Exchange, particularly with RPC over HTTPS and Exchange ActiveSync. Therefore they are not recommended.
