  • Exchange ActiveSync Admin Tool

Exchange Server Standard SP2 Stand-alone with OWA configured previously.

We recently purchased several Iphones and I took some time to install the Mobile Admin Tool. The problem is that I am unable to view any of the devices that are connected to the Active Sync. All of the phone work great and are recieving messages/contacts/calendar entries...I am unable to administer these devices from the Exchange server. I do get the website when I browse to https://localhost/mobileadmin but nothing shows up. Another related issue is that when I try and connect to it via nother computer on LAN...it results in a Server Application Runtime error screen.

Any ideas on properly installing the tool so that I can see and manage devices? I have a suspition that it has something to do with IIS/Virtual directories, but I am not seasoned enough in this area to clearly see it. When I initially install the tool...it creates an entirely NEW set of files under a DEFAULT WEB SITE...so i end up with (2) DEFAULT WEB SITE entries in IIS.

This is a stand-alone server with no front end server and I've followed an MS Tech note to re-create the Virtual directory to get Active sync to work.

Whatever you are expecting this tool to do, you will be disappointed - unless you just want to wipe the devices - as that is all it does.
There is no other management available.

The tool is a little flaky, and in some cases has been known to install itself in to a separate web site, rather than the default. It is pretty hopeless really, and unless you are planning to wipe devices frequently, it is best ignored.

I was beginning to figure that! It appears it is much more integrated within Exchange 2008?

I can't even wipe the devices due to a script error when I attempt to WIPE by ID....it must be due to the non-default directory installation. Do you know how I would properly migrate the VD to the right palce?

Well, one thing you didn't mention is that you can decipher the serial number of the phones themselves by looking at the listings when searching around.

I'm not sure how useful that may be but it might have its value to some.
