  • Exchange Services, what order to stop?

Just curious in what order everyone stops exchange services for shutdowns?

Re: Exchange Services, what order to stop?

Here's my batch file for stopping Exchange services:

    Net Stop MSExchangeIS
    Net Stop MSExchangeMTA
    Net Stop MSExchangeMGMT
    Net Stop RESvc
    Net Stop MSExchangeES
    Net Stop MSExchangeSA
    Net Stop SMTPSVC
    Net Stop POP3Svc
    Net Stop IMAP4Svc
    Net Stop W3SVC
    Net Stop "IIS Admin Service"

Not all of these will be relevant to every Exchange installation and you technically don't need to stop the W3SVC or the IIS Admin Service, but I do anyway.

Ahh nice. That's about what I have too. I add a /y in there just in case of a dependency.

If you stop IISADMIN first, with a /y, then it stops the other IIS services for you - POP, IMAP etc.
The only thing you might have to add in there is AV software. McAfee Groupshield for example used to refuse to allow IS to stop, and had to be stopped manually first.
