Re: difference between personal folder and public folder

A personal folder is a .pst that can sit on a file share (normally within the default location within a users profile on the local machine). Its not a robust method for storing email data and depending on the size of the .pst and where its located is susceptible to corruption.

A public folder is a resource that resides in Exchange itself. It is a the public folder database (store) that is used as a form of "document collaboration". I guess a poor mans Sharepoint. Theres not much emphasis for it anymore in Exchange 2007 although it is supported in 2007. Items that need to be accessed by anyone who has rights to the public folder(s) will be viewed from their.

Additionally why not google it and get the precise information from Technet or any Exchange resource. The amount of time it took you to post this query could have been spent educating yourself as to both questions. Theres tons of information at www.petri.com that cover this.
