i have exchange server 2003 sp2 on windows 2003 sp2.. i am using backup exec 10d to backup my exchange server and it is dreadfully slooooooow.. does anyone have any ideas how i can optimize my backup.. it has run for nearly 12 hrs and only has 55gb backed up another 100gb to go....

Oh i am doing disk to disk over the network on the same switch.

any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: exchange 2003 backups

Are you backing up the individual mailboxes? If so, then that's the problem. When you backup the mailboxes BackupExec uses MAPI to access each mailbox and you get dreadfully slow job rates, like 3 megabits per minute.

You need to backup the Information Store as a whole. If you need granular level backups of the mailboxes you'll either have to live with the slow performance or upgrade to version 11, which supports granular level backup and recovery of the Information Store instead of the individual mailboxes.
