  • ISA server nd SMTP recipient check in A.D. for Exchange 2003

    Hello,

I have an Exchange 2003 server with recipient lookup enabled.
    How to: http://blogs.technet.com/dlemson/arc.../17/52019.aspx

This means my Exchange 2003 server rejects any message addressed to a local domain invalid mailbox (mailbox not in Active Directory) with a "550 User unknown" error. This prevents reception of invalid messages and having to returns many NDR notifications. Great way to preserve bandwidth and CPU power.

Adding an ISA server acting as SMTP relay/firewall in front of Exchange 2003: the ISA server would accept messages to all local domain invalid Email addresses, retry many times to deliver to the Exchange server, and finally would have to return many NDRs to spammers invalid addresses. I'd like to prevent this usesless job.

Is there a way of having the ISA server do a SMTP recipient check in Active Directory before accepting incoming Emails, and reject messages to non existent mailboxes, while accepting messages to valid mailboxes ? (just like Exchange 2003 does)
