  • Moving Exchange 2003 to a fresh server

    Hi,

Is there a faster way to move the Exchange database to a fresh server than moving all mailboxes to the newly created mailbox stores?
Can I, theoreticaly, mount the stores from the old server and change the name of the new server to the old one's name?

    Thanks in advance,
    Tal.

    No.
The databases are server specific. It is always best to move the mailboxes, that way you get a fresh database file and do not bring across any problems.

Changing the name of an Exchange server is not possible. It will break Exchange.

To do a migration correctly there are no shortcuts.
