    Dear All

I always receive the following in the Event Viewer when I try to backup Microsoft Information Store:
    Event ID: 215
Description: certsrv.exe (178 The backup has been stopped because it was halted by the client or the connection with the client failed.

Kindly, would you help to solve this trouble?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks... I've read this article before but this is not the case, hence I didn't have SQL server installed and then uninstalled. Anyways, I've tried to search the DLL but doesn't exist.

Can you help solving this problem? It's urgent because I need to backup e-mail?

      Thanks in advance

          OS: Windows Server 2003
          email: Exchange Server 2003

It's a server didicated for email only, so no other apps running on the server. It's the PDC as well.

          Type: Error
          Source: ESENT
          Category: Logging/Recovery
          Event ID: 215
Description: certsrv.exe (178 The backup has been stopped because it was halted by the client or the connection with the client failed.

I've read in Knowledge Base section of the website an article tells that the exchange DB could be corrupted. If so What should be done?

                Backing up your information store

                Ashraf,

First things first. The most important thing to do is get that backup before fiddling around with settings that might crash or corrupt. I suggest you try an offline backup first.

Go in to Services and shut down all the services you don't need to do the backup, including all the Exchange services, DHCP, DNS, SQL and any other service that creates a database. (You have to kick all the users off for a while to do this)

Run a backup using your favorite software or Windows Backup. Then check to see if you get the same error. You might also need to stop the Certificate Services as well if you get it.

If this works, then you can feel confident about making changes, applying updates, and so on.

A server without an up-to-date backup makes me VERY nervous.
