  • Some mail automatically generates NDR!!!!!!

Hi all, I am experiencing an issue with one of my servers. When some of the client computers send emails they sometimes generate a NDR and are not delivered. This is only random email addresses, they send fine to other email addresses.

Exchange Message tracking comes back with the following:

SMTP Store Driver: Message Submitted from Store
SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing
SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue
    SMTP: Message submitted to Categorizer
SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing
SMTP: Message Routed and Queued for Remote Delivery
SMTP: Started Outbound Transfer of Message
    SMTP: Non-Delivery Report (NDR) Generated

I have performed a MS Exchange Troubleshoot Assistant Test (Mail Flow Troubleshoot) the results are as follows:

    AREA : BASIC SERVER INFO
(CAUTION) : SMTP instance fully-qualified domain name does not match DNS resolved server name.
(CAUTION) : SMTP instance fully-qualified domain name does not match server name.

    AREA : DNS RECORDS
'Pointer' record does not match SMTP instance

What is confusing is that all setting were configured using the wizards on initial installation i.e. SMTP virtual server and DNS.

I am reluctant to make changes to DNS or SMTP server settings unless i am 100% sure it will be ok and won’t affect the working environment.

All finders point to changing the Default SMTP Virtual server by going to advance delivery tab and changing the FQDN and also making changes to DNS, either or both!!!!

Anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
