  • Reconnect SystemMailbox, has Red X.

    Hi,

Someone made a mistake and deleted users through Exchange (can't really tell excatly what happened). He was trying to delete users from the GAL and ended deleting the actual AD user. This is most likely related, now the SystemMailbox has a Red X and can be reconnected. Some questions:

What is this mailbox for in Exchange architecture ?
Is it possible to reconnect to another user/is it something we should do ?
What problems can come up if it gets deleted ?

Little picture showing the mailbox attached.

Any input will be greatly appreciated !

If you restart the information store and system attendant, then Exchange should sort out the system mailboxes for you.

      Hi,

      I've been through this KB.

I haven't tried to restart the Store and System Attendant, but would this re-create a user in Active Directory ? The actualy SystemMailbox[GUID] has been deleted.

      Best regards,

        Hi

Not sure if this helps you.. but the system mailbox is specifc to each exchange server in your organization. Typically, its only ever has a red cross when the exchange server is in the process of being deleted from your Active Directory.

Its used for passing emails between exchange server mailbox stores, used as a location for processing inbound/outbound emails.. and things such as that.

There may be a way to recover the deleted AD account for it though....

        Check http://www.petri.com/recovering-dele...-directory.htm

        and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/840001

Other than that.. it may be possible to do a system state recovery (depending on your backups, AD state, changes inbetween.. and how big your AD is).. and use a slightly older copy of your AD database...

Not sure if that helps you or not.. but perhaps its a start...

        Will

Oh..2 links for you that might help you re-create it

If I'm not mistaken you should have one system mailbox per mail store.

            Hi,

SysmtemMailbox[GUID] is used for Exchange Event Sinks and there's indeed a mailbox of that name in every mailbox stores.
